Mrs Armitage (Launceston) - Mr President, I, like others, do not feel that this bill should be before us. I certainly do not have a problem with the members mentioned being part of the voting on this bill; I trust their integrity. In fact, as has been mentioned, we all could have pecuniary interests, or an interest that is not pecuniary. In my case, I work one evening per month for the Australian Medical Association, which is a union representing a group of -

Mrs Taylor (Elwick) - Do they pay you?

Mrs Armitage - A very small amount, for four hours. The AMA pays me, but that is not the public sector; they also work for the private doctors as well. I am not paid by the public purse, but I feel I should mention it. All of us, in some way or another, could have an interest. I believe that we are here to represent the interests of our constituents and I would have no problem at all with the members who have been mentioned participating in the debate.
